Meet some of the ladies from my little SL Family!

Ima is my Memaw! She's a super cute neko lady with a big heart. I only met her recently and I already feel a genuine kinship with her! She's kinda loud, but not (remind you of anyone?) and she dances to the beat of her own drum. I adore her muchly and I'm excited to find out where our newfound friendship will lead.

Nana is my SL MamaBear, which is kind of odd, because in RL I could actually be HER Mama. Still, despite the age gap, she really does provide some of the best advice I've ever had. She's definitely wise beyond her years, with a self awareness that makes me envious - how dare you be so smart and savvy when it's taken me this long, woman! Nana and I have been family for almost a whole year, but it's really only been recent that we've actually become friends, and I legit could not be happier that she is in my life. Her sunny disposition is without doubt catching, and she inspires me to be a better version of myself. Love you both, you crazy, wonderful, amazing ladies!

We're having a bit of a tropical Christmas in this picture, which was a bit of a challenge! I literally had so much fun taking this, with Nana's afking and a long talk with Ima, getting to know her more. This is one of my favourite pictures because of the memories that have been forged and the strength in the relationships that is coming my way with these beautiful women.

I was talking with Jake today about SL people (not specific people, just people in general) and how we view avatars.

To me, it's always been a case of being attracted to an avatar and then maybe connecting with the person behind it. I know, I know... Pickle, you're shallow af! To a degree, that's right. In terms of avatars I can be super shallow, and probably won't initiate contact with someone I don't enjoy the appearance of. However, that doesn't mean I'll poopoo a conversation with someone who doesn't appeal to me, in terms of their avatar.. in fact, many people I connect with on an intellectual level don't have the same style as me and a lot of the time, don't even enjoy shopping - an idea that is completely foreign to me!

I'm going to use the conversation we were having (with permission!) to enlighten you on my theory.

I find it such a shame when a new SL'er is cast out because of how they look, and even worse when an older resident is ignored because they don't fit the bill of a certain clique's appearance needs.

There are hidden gems everywhere - and sometimes, that free pen from the bank is gonna write far smoother than the fancy expensive pen.

I logged into facebook this morning and was promptly reminded that today my blog is officially three! I'm absolutely astounded I've managed to be as constant with my posts as I have been, and above all, I'm amazed at the personal journey I've been on and the growth that has occurred since the start.

When I began this blog, it was to appease a force in my life that was not only rather manipulative, but also never complimentary towards me after our first week of meeting. I tried over and over to 'start' but it wasn't until we'd parted ways that I realized I didn't have to satisfy anyone but myself.

Kaleidoscope has seen me through the loss of friendships and the birth of new ones, helped me feel more confident in myself both in SL and RL, and has allowed me a channel that has served as a sort of therapy for me. It has become a labour of love. A place for me to be unequivocally me.

At first, I was scared to write. I still wonder some days why anyone would want to read my drivel, but knowing that there are others who face similar issues to me has led me to believe in myself more, knowing I am not alone in the way my brain might work occasionally is a massive relief.

At the start, I never even thought about applying for blogger positions within SL. The idea that somebody might want little ol' me to promote their items when there are so many insanely talented photographers and bloggers about was akin to insanity... but let's face it, I'm slightly bonkers! After a few months I did begin to apply and while I have faced many, many rejections there have also been celebrations when brands I have always adored have taken me on. Some were temporary. Others were tiny stores at the start that have gone on to accomplish some wonderful things, and watching these brands and events grow as I have has been the most brilliant experience.

For anybody that is still trying to get their foot in the door in terms of blogging, the only advice I will give you is to do it for you. If you don't love it, you're not doing yourself or your future brand investors justice. I truly believe that every picture I take comes from my heart, and I will continue attempting to weave stories and improve my photography until... well, just until.

Once again, I'm not entirely sure I have the whole Asian thing down. However, being that it is SL and a creative platform, and that I AM completely ignorant to Asian culture, I hope you'll excuse me for being what is possibly a mish-mash of Japanese/Chinese and er, maybe even something else.

I've been spending a little more time taking the original, un-photoshopped pictures lately, and I hope that's noticeable. I'm also thoroughly enjoying learning all the LumiPro things, but at 8k it's a pretty high price to pay for what i'm currently capable of doing, which is basically just projectors. However, with that investment, you do get access to the youtube tutorials, so I'm definitely in need of watching some more of these in the not too distant future.

I know, I know, I've already posted today! I just couldn't resist showing off these amazing finds for 50L friday from Miss Chelsea and Veechi, plus the super cute thigh high sneakers from Empire at this round of Uber.

The Dox sim has recently re-opened it's doors and it's an absolutely adorable Tokyo styled set up, with many nooks and crannies to explore, plus plenty of photo opportunities for the creatively inspired. Being that I'm just a semi-creative Pickle, I opted for the zebra crossing (not sure what they're called anywhere other than the UK) and the backdrop of the street almost as soon as you enter the sim!

Yesterday saw KristiRenae of Southern Roots throw a massive street party, celebrating the opening of her new area - the town square.

Adam was kind enough to play some tunes (Enough with the Beiber already, Adam!), and a lot of the Adam's Model group popped by to say hello and explore. I genuinely had a lovely time, and although I'm completely people'd out today, it was absolutely wonderful to see people coming together again and show support for Kristi's fantastic new area.

I fully encourage taking a tp to Southern Roots to explore - and if you join the group, you will get the ability to rez your own poses and small props in order to take your pictures. \o/

Moving on to the clothing I'm wearing today - the Bikini is by Narcisse. I think the top is so beautiful it could easily be worn with a skirt or a pair of pants as a top, and while most colours are available in the mainstore, there's a special blue version that you can pick up with the Midnight Mania event that happens monthly. I'm not really one to get my nipples out without due cause, but this outfit just made all kinds of sense to me. It's a little bit naughty and a lot fantastic... and I feel like maybe I'm missing some of that fantastical stuffs lately, and with the fantasy gacha carnival thingies going on, sometimes regular posts can look a little bland.

This look shows more items from the Y2K round of Rewind, and I'm absolutely loving the ErschxOppa set (There are earrings and a necklace not shown, too).

It's a gacha and it's so different that as soon as it popped up I just KNEW it was going to be fun to photograph. As usual, my anxious little brain has been whirring with ideas surrounding the items, and finally I settled upon this. Tada!

I'm always slightly wary of wearing skins that aren't my RL race. I'm almost literally the whitest white girl in the history of white people. I've been bought up in the most white-collar, English way possible for my generation, and I am mostly pretty ignorant to the struggles of many other races. The last thing on my mind is making people uncomfortable or awkward because of a way that I portray an item, and I really hope that I do justice to the skins and pretties that I find across the grid. If you choose to look at this post, or any of my posts for any reason, just know that I am attempting to make art, regardless of race, colour, gender stereotypes or roles. I want so badly to bridge ALL the gaps and have a world where nothing matters except lifting people up and making others happy, but not at the expense of ourselves... but I know realistically this is just a dream for how the world works right now.

That being said, this skin is truly beautiful, as are all the items portrayed in today's post. I am absolutely thrilled with the outcome of the photograph, and only hope you enjoy what I have bought you. xoxo
