When *R.O* showed a work in progress of his absolutely stunning set of poses, I internally screamed like an excited child at Disney. 

Many moons ago, when I was just a wee slip of a lass, I was actually fairly decent at playing the Viola. Not many people seem to know what a Viola is, and the only way I can describe it is that it is bigger than a Violin, still held under the chin, and in regards to Orchestral situations, the Violas (being slightly more bass-like) would sit nearer to the Cellos than the Violins.

Back then, I was incredibly jealous of the Violin players. Not only did one of them get chosen as "First Violin" which essentially meant that special person would be second in command to the Conductor (that's the guy waving his stick around looking slightly crazy with his wig falling off if he gets really into it), but it also meant there were solo's and actual recognizable tunes that they were often responsible for. As a Viola player, it was rare (in Orchestral terms) I would get anything fancy to play, and I was always slightly butthurt by that.

However, other than wanting to be a Violin player because of my teenage jealousy, I had a few absolutely wonderful experiences. I was lucky enough to do a small (like, extremely small) tour of Barcelona (where I bought a Real Madrid football shirt, and got chased along a beach by a naked Spaniard), played at the Royal Festival Hall and the Barbican Centre in London and made a few friends that I'll never forget.

In other news, *R.O* stated that this pose set was inspired by Lindsey Stirling. As an artist, she is visually and aurally stunning, and my picture today was loosely based upon her amazing "First Light" video - which I have included below for you to peek at. Please do peek. Please!

I'm visualizing here. It's a technique I've picked up from my hours of netflixing, youtubing and generally attempting to think positively about life.

The idea of visualizing is seeing yourself in the future, doing the thing you love. Having the relationships you want. Finding the contentment you long for.

 Although I'm not heavily into D/s I do believe in a lot of the values that come along with it.. and believe that there are certain things that should be discussed before taking any sort of relationship to a next level. 

Honesty. Respect. Consent. Loyalty. Commitment.

Those are just five words we often throw around without much thought, and without thinking through the consequences. Much like D/s those words mean different things to different people, and it's important to understand where your partner is coming from when you're making decisions.

So often, I see facebook posts from people who have thrown themselves into new relationships and have opened themselves up too quickly, backing down on what they want because someone has shown them a form of affection that they might be able to understand and identify. So many times I watch as the same patterns emerge - patterns that my own relationships have mirrored - and it breaks my heart that the people involved - beautiful people, capable and worthy of love and loving, are hurt because they haven't taken the time to really get to know the person they coupled with.

So, my Pickle-ism for the day is take your time.

Hopefully, I'll take my own advice next time, too.

Adam and I were having a little chat the other day, and while we talked we reminisced about our days at school. It reminded me of a time when I was about 11 or so. I was bought up fairly strictly. I was the first child of three, so I was paving the way for my brothers, and I tested my poor Mum and Dad regularly. On this particular occasion I had been invited to a friends house. My friends Mum was far more liberal than my own, and before dinner we were shoo-ed out of the house and told to go to the park across the road for half an hour to give her some peace and quiet, something I'd never be allowed to do if I was at home. Once we'd got to the park, we were greeted by several people from school - the cool kids.

Now, I've never been a cool kid. I can't even pretend to be remotely cool. I'm too emotional, I laugh too loudly and at my own jokes, even when they're not funny. I've never worn the right clothes or had the right haircut to fit into that particular clique, and for the most part, I was okay with that. However, seeing how accepting they were of me that day, I was eager to impress.

"Let's play a game of tag!" << That was Ross, the cutest boy in my class. And the meanest.

Naturally everyone agreed.

Quickly, rules were put into place. "We're gonna leg it from this wall, to that slide and then back again!" << Ross. Ugh. I hated that I liked him.

But seriously, what the fudge did 'Leg it' mean? I had absolutely no clue! I had never heard this term. My parents were older than most, even then, and no one I had ever been around had used 'Leg it' in a sentence. I wracked my brain for an idea, and finally, just as everyone had lined up, I'd decided I knew exactly what it was.

"Three, two, one, GO!"

Ahh fuck.

So they all start running, and there I am, 11 year old Pickle... HOPPING.

I've been thinking for a while about this post. Mostly, thinking about the significance of the empty chairs. I think there's always a reason you do something in life, and sometimes those reasons are more obvious than others.

For me, I think the chairs signify that although I am somewhat broken, curled into a self-healing ball at the moment, there's still room at my table for good people. At least, I hope that's what it is. 

I have really been making an effort to step out of my comfort zone, and off of my platform and encounter some new people. It's just terribly unfortunate that a lot of the people I seem to meet like to place me into a box that *I* feel I don't belong.

I get told I'm too much of something. Too serious. Expecting too much of people. That while I appear 'different' at first, I end up being just the same as everyone else.

I'm not sure if that's entirely true. I certainly don't feel like everyone else, and much of the time, I don't feel like anyone is ever going to understand me, much as I try to explain who I am... and those that DO know me, do they really know ME or just the reflection of myself that I project on them?

I'm in a bit of a weird head-space at the moment, trying to sort out my thoughts from my feelings, and I suppose that's kind of being reflected in this picture, too.

I have this one friend in SL who has been with me since almost the very beginning of my journey. Almost 10 years, now.

Unfortunately for me (but luckily for her!) her RL has become far too busy to allow her to pop into SL very often. It doesn't escape me however how very lucky I am to have her in my life.

Yesterday we talked again for the first time in maybe four months, she slid easily back into my life, and I hers, and we chatted about everything, real and virtual.. then all too soon it was time for her to disappear again.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not sad. I mean, it would be lovely to spend much more time with her. However, I firmly believe that her time is far better spent in the real world, doing the real things. The one thing I have noticed lately is the negativity, and we briefly chatted last night about how 10 years ago we were so much more likely to befriend someone on a whim. Now, both of us question motives... and I can't help but wonder, what is it about this secondlife, a place where you can be anything, and anyone, that makes people want to be mean?

Why are people creating relationships only to abandon them without word?

What makes you cuss and swear at that stranger you approached 5 minutes ago, when all they've done is signify a slight difference of opinion?

Are we becoming a society of callous, self entitled, pseudo-humans unable to take even the slightest bit of constructive criticism, preferring to have smoke blown up our butts than to have ways to improve pointed out?

More to the point, why are we so desperate to have these mean spirited people like us?

I feel like it's so nice to be nice, why would I try to be anything but? Of course, I have my moments where I'm a right raging bitch... but usually I have been pushed to that point.

Do something nice today, if it's a positive word to a friend, or a compliment to a stranger. Be someone good, someone you'd like to meet. Just for today.

When I was younger, I did a BUNCH of activities. My parents were the pushy type, but honestly, none of us kids really had a talent for anything they pushed us into. My days were filled with school, and my evenings would consist of Girls Brigade (similar to girl scouts), Viola lessons, Orchestra, Ballet, Tap, Band, etc etc. This was pretty normal for us, and I never really appreciated it - probably still don't fully appreciate the effort my parents went to now, but at the time, all I wanted to do was go out and spend time with my friends, like the normal kids did.

Instead, I would be in a stuffy room, full of sweaty nerdy kids, struggling to par le' somethingorother or arpeggio badly on the viola.

One memory I will always treasure however, is being Frosty the Snowman for a dance show.

I know, it sounds dumb. It WAS dumb. It was SO dumb that my mum made my costume, out of pillow cases.

But no matter how dumb it was, I was motherfucking Frosty. I mean, how many Frosty's are there in the Frosty the snowman song? ONE. And I was it. That meant I was important. I had a freakin' solo. 

I think I must have been like 13. Still petite then, because let's face it, doing all the things ALL the time keeps you fit and trim. I still remember opening night of that show, there I am, doused in the frumpy pillowcases of my rather creative, pushy mother, waiting for that opening of the curtain, the younger children running and screaming in the background, getting into position waiting for the music to start too... and then the curtains actually open.

I don't have a horror story for you. 

It actually went really well, and the kids popped that hat on my head and I tap-danced my way across the stage with step-ballchanges and shuffles like a pro.

There's probably a VHS tape of it somewhere in my parents collection, shamefully.

This photo, despite being far more elegant than a frumpy Frosty, reminds me of the feeling I got at the end of that performance. The feeling of "Hey, I did it. All that work, all that effort, all that practice and it happened!"

I also just found out I have a niece. I've never been an Aunty before. Welcome to the world, little Harper. I can't wait to meet you!
